Even when I was a kid I remember pausing time in a few moments in my life that felt bougie AF and thinking to myself, “Yes. THIS is the life for me.” Lol.
I’ve always had a taste for the finer things in life, whether or not I had the budget. This enabled me to flex my creativity by creating a luxurious feel via things that didn’t necessarily cost a lot. Small tweaks that make a big difference.
It really comes down to curating your environment and setting the tone with all your senses.
Here are 5 small items that pack a big punch in the luxury department.
+ Candles
I am a candle FIEND. They’re truly one of my favorite things in life. Candles bring in the sense of scent, but also just a feeling of warmth and depth. You guys know I’m obsessed with everything diptqyue. Some other current favs are LAFCO & Cire Trudon or Maison Louis Marie, and Boy Scents on the more budget friendly side.
+ Great Smelling Soaps & Cleaners
Another hitting the scent sense. Having a dish soap, hand soap or cleaner that smells great makes doing tasks INFINITELY more enjoyable. It turns them into an e x p e r i e n c e. I’m willing to spend a few more dollars on a dish soap or cleaning spray that makes me feel abundant, present and grateful to do a chore. Plus, it’s a low cost item in general, so even the most expensive are typically still under $30. With all soaps and cleaning sprays, decanting into a glass vessel is another key way to up your luxe factor and make you feel bougie AF.
For dish soaps I love Williams Sonoma {currently using the White Gradenia scent} & Mrs Meyers.
Hand soaps for liquid again, Mrs Meyers {Love Peony & Geranium for Spring} or Barr Co {especially the fir & grapefruit in Winter} but for bar soap nothing is chicer than a cube of Savon De Marseille.
Cleaning sprays I love Caldrea {sea salt neroli is my go-to}, Mrs Meyers or Barr Co.
+ Good {White} Towels
There is nothing like stepping out of a hot shower and wrapping up in a plush towel that makes you feel like you’re in a spa. The ultimate feeling of comfort and abundance. For some reason anything other than white or ivory just doesn’t feel as luxurious to me. We are in need of these but I’ve been eyeing these bath sheets from Parachute because I keep seeing people rave about them. Just as important? A fluffy bath mat. I want to step out of the shower and feel like i’m surrounded by a cloud. I got these at Target a few months ago and could not love them more. I see some of the reviews mention shedding, but I got sand color and have not experienced that.
+ Music
Completely free and the ultimate for setting the tone of a space and completing your environment from the sound sense. I love vining to tunes that feel elevated and elegant. My go-to’s are classics like Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra or for a little jazzy vibes with French Cafe or some Brazilian Bossanova. I also love feel-good oldies for a sunny afternoon or cooking, and country for cleaning!
+ Coffee Table Books
Coffee table books instantly add personality, depth and style to a space. You can make a statement of who you are with what books you choose to surround yourself with. Designer fashion books are always a classic, adding a splash of Chanel or Dior to your home, but I also love books on gardening, travel, art, home decor and vintage photography. What a fun way to not only showcase but around yourself with some favorite places you’ve traveled (or hope to travel) to, your favorite artists, or beautiful flowers and gardens. Some of my favorites are below. I have found Amazon has the best prices but you can also find gems at Marshall’s or TJ Maxx online! Just found THIS classic for under $60 when it’s usually $90.
+ Fresh Flowers
Fresh flowers feel like the ultimate luxury. They bring life and scent and joy to any space. I actually love getting my flowers from Trader Joe’s- they’re super affordable and always have a great selection. My go-to’s {when in season} are eucalyptus, hydrangeas, peonies or roses.
Bonus Tip:
Toilet paper. I know. But seriously, thick AF, quality toilet paper makes your home feel MONEY. It’s a non-negotiable in our house. We usually opt for charmin or cottonelle lol.
