I’ve already shared my secret for steadily rocking designer jewelry {hint: I rent it}. But when I’m looking to actually buy a big ticket designer item it’s most likely going to be VINTAGE. So many advantages to buying designer pieces vintage:
+ It *typically* costs less than buying new (some pieces retain or grow in value)
+ You get something unique that less people are likely to have
+ Better for the environment
+ Don’t have to deal with rude bougie salespeople (jk, kind of. BIG MISTAKE. HUGE!)
+ It has a story! I love the idea that the piece has lived another life and now we are living ours together
It’s just better. Plus is sounds so chic to say, “Oh, thank you. It’s VINTAGE.” It’s also important to know where to sell pieces that may no longer be a fit for you. Not all selling platforms are equal. Here are my go-to’s for buying and selling vintage designer pieces.
Where I find & Sell Designer Pieces
+ What Goes Around Comes Around: Buy only. Their pieces are always top-notch. Beautifully curated and in exquisite condition. Sign up for their newsletter to get 10% off your first order. They also have a curated page on Shopbop that has super-unique pieces. I ordered a Prada bag from here and it looked absolutely brand new. The best of the best.
+ Shopbop Archive: Buy only. Shopbop {one of my favorite online retailers} recently launched Shopbop Archive with a beautiful selection of classic pieces. The offer free shipping and returns and is eligible for Amazon Prime. And they offer higher $$ back from my favorite online shopping hack than WGACA.
+The RealReal: Buy & Sell. I’ve sold to TRR several times and it’s always a great experience. They offer a private appointment with a a buyer in one of their boutiques or you can mail items in. As you sell more you get a higher percentage commission. As a shopper, they almost always have 20% off or more promos going.
+Vestaire Collective: Buy & Sell. This is by far the largest selection of used and vintage designer I’ve found online, and it’s sort of like shopping meets social networking. You can set alerts for particular items you’re looking for, which is nice. They also have some upper-mid range brands in addition to designer. So if you try selling to TRR and they don’t accept a certain line that you felt was designer, they’ll likely have it at Vestaire. Their selling style is different from others as pieces are photographed and listed by sellers at home. The piece isn’t sent in to Vestaire for authentication/inspection until AFTER it is sold.
+ Shop ReBag: Best pricing I have seen for designer bags, hands down. I look here first! They add new pieces weekly. $200 off with newsletter signup and they often have discount codes available for $200 off. Condition varies and is noted on the listing. Great for selling because they offer payment up front rather than commission and you get 20% additional if you choose to be paid in credit to their site. ALSO, when you buy a bag from them their “Infinity Experience” allows you to exchange it within a year for a 70% – 80% credit on what you paid.
+ Consignment stores and Ebay: You can actually sometimes snag the most unique finds at the best prices at local consignment or thrift stores, or even sites like Ebay. However, be wary of authenticity. I would worry about this more online than at a consignment store (as long as designer is their specialty) but it is definitely something consider. All the sites above verify authenticity so you don’t have this issue.
