I used to absolute loathe buying sunglasses because they always made me feel ugly. After years of writing them off, I came to the conclusion that this was because very few styles of sunglasses actually *work* for me due to my rounder face shape and *statement* nose {which I’ve grown to love}. Sunglasses are often showcased on those with a razor sharp jawline and button nose, so the looks I was trying to emulate just weren’t right for my features. The trendy, tiny styles the supermodels were rocking were truly just NOT it for me.
I’ve found that what works for me is pretty universally flattering, but especially so for those with more prominent noses and soft faces. Here are some tips:
The Best Sunglasses for Big Noses
These are GUIDELINES- you do you, whatever makes you happy, and sometimes I stray from a few of these, but never all. I’ve found the best sunglasses for bigger noses have:
+ Large Lenses (to balance out the nose size)
+ Cat eye (or lenses that lean round, to soften the nose, vs square)
+ Thick or double nose bridge (to visually break up the nose)
+ Thick side arms (again, to visually break up the nose)
+ Darker colors/tints (giving the appearance of almost a contour effect)
My go-to is: a larger classic cat-eye or aviator, and leaning more round than square {with *some* exceptions}. Here are some of my favorites that I own & love, just purchased or want to.
Sunglasses I own & love
Le Specs Air Heart: I own these in Black, but love them so much I’ve been contemplating grabbing them in the caramel and tortoise as well. A classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s style cat-eye. If the air hearts are good enough for Meghan Markle and Olivia Palmero, they’re good enough for me. I love Le Specs because the quality for the price point is truly unmatched. You can’t go wrong with any of their styles. This one features and oversized cat-eye, the perfect combo to pair with a large nose.
Versace Medusa Icon: I think this photo of me shows clearly why this general style (large cat-eye) works for prominent noses. It visually cuts the nose in half, while the large, arched lenses still fully cover the eye. My nose looks almost button-esque here which, I assure you, it is not. I love these frames so much, they’re probably my favorite pair I own, and they aren’t TOO big. Truly like a timeless classic. New Favorite Sunglasses
I just got THESE stunners this week and I cannot recommend them more highly. They’re absolutely beautiful in color and quality, plus the double wire bridge and large lenses are very flattering on a big nose. Sometimes aviators are cut too wide and can make my nose feel even bigger, but these are just right. I sit them slightly lower on my nose than this photo shows, and I love that they still fit under a baseball hat (sometimes an issues for me with larger lenses). I actually think many of the styles from Bottega Veneta would compliment stronger noses. Find more aviator options HERE.
I also just got these Gucci stunners. I normally don’t go for square frames, as mentioned, but these are oversized and rounded enough around the nose that I still think they’re flattering for larger noses. I love the vintage feel and definitely plan on styling them with a scarf like this at some point. I think Gucci always tends to have a great balance of vintage meets modern. Pairs I have my eye on
Celine sunglasses will always be classic. Their cat-eye and butterfly shapes are often flattering for larger noses because they tend to be oversized. I’ve had a few pairs in the past and at times they have even been too oversized, but I think these butterfly style will be just right. This is one of the instances where I may break my dark tint rule, because the shape and size would support a lighter color, although I really love these in the classic havana and Black as well.
