Wedding Bouquet Christmas Ornament

What to do with wedding bouquet flowers after your wedding

So it’s only two weeks until Christmas and it’s been a year-and-a-half since our wedding, but who’s counting?! Let’s combine all the things! Here’s how to make a wedding bouquet Christmas ornament.

I planned our wedding on a relatively short timetable {5 months}. We got engaged in February 2015 and after agonizing over a venue for a month and half I decided, despite advice to the contrary, that I HAD to get married at my Grandmother’s house… that had already been listed for sale.

If you’ve read my About Page you know that my Grandmother, Audrey, is a huge style influence in my life, so I just couldn’t picture getting married anywhere other than the stunning home she and my Grandfather built together. Since the house was for sale, I thought… what’s the shortest time I can reasonably plan a wedding in, and pray that the house doesn’t sell so we still have a venue? 4.5 months later we were saying “I do”.

Even though Mark and I had already been together for 7 years, I did feel sort of like a sad kitten that our engagement was so short. {I know. First World Problems}. I wanted to be sure to preserve all the moments I could from our wedding. One thought I had was doing something with our wedding flowers.

Well kids, keeping portions of my bouquet and my husband’s boutonniere in a ziplock bag in our closet for a year-and-a-half {that he may have almost thrown out twice} has finally paid off!

An easy DIY Wedding Bouquet Christmas Ornament

One of my favorite parts of the holidays is decorating our Christmas tree because many of our ornaments represent memories, so we get to re-live the joy of those moments. Whenever we travel I try to pick up an ornament to add to the collection, and I definitely want to capture other major life moments there as well. So when we busted out the decor this year it hit me, I could make an ornament with the flowers!

This literally could not be easier to do. Legitimately, the hardest part is getting your significant other to not throw out the bag of flowers until you’re ready to get your craft game on.

You Will Need :

– A Glass Ornament with a removable top. I got this one because it had a wider top opening than most and was larger than most others available, key for stuffing flowers inside.

– A glass marker in the color of your choice. I went with Gold because, Gold. I actually had some around the house, but similar is available here.

– Pretty Ribbon. I was between blush velvet and this deep burgundy ribbon. I was feeling classic this year and stuck with the burgundy but I’m keeping blush in mind if I ever want to switch it up.

– If you’re high maintenance like me, Liquid Gold Leaf so you can make the ornament top Gold instead of Silver… again because, Gold. You can also do this with any color paint.

– Flowers from your wedding or any special occasion. You don’t have to stick to just flowers either! I was thinking parts of your wedding invite, your vows, glitter or rice, etc from your grand exit, or really any other special moment that can fit into an ornament will work.

How to preserve your wedding flowers after your wedding

. . .

Once you’re set up,  just wiggle/pull the little top off the the ornament and set aside.

Gently push whatever items you want into the top hole.

Paint the little metal top if you so choose. Let it dry, then replace on the ornament by pushing together the little spider leg thingys.

I decided to write our last name and wedding date with the paint pen. Wait until you assemble the ornament so you can see how the flowers lay before you write.

Finally, tie it all together with your pretty ribbon and hang it on your tree!
