Hi Loves! I hope you’re having a great week. I’m feeling pretty fab because I’ve been very productive as of late despite having an insanely jam-packed schedule. It feels so good to TAKE ACTION. Action is the cure to anxiety for me. How are you doing with your New Year Goals? If you aren’t doing great, I suggest reading my post on how to create goals you will actually achieve. It is my first time implementing this strategy and it is working really well, so far. It has NOT been perfect. But life never is. I seriously feel like the NUMBER ONE KEY to me staying on track has been using Asana. It is an absolute game changer for productivity. It’s like a calendar/to-do list on steroids and I’m obsessed with it. I think I’ll do a full post on it soon to share exactly how I’m using it, tips etc. I just want to use it a bit longer so I have more info for you guys.
Anyway, I shared this look on Instagram this week and you all lovvvvved it so I wanted to do a blog post to share all the deets! I have been leaning more into comfy territory lately and this look is the ultimate version of that because I am legitimately wearing a pj top. Yes, this top is a Victoria’s Secret pj set tank top.
How to Successfully Wear a PJ Top in Public
-
Make Sure you’re Wearing the Right Undergarments:
Just because you’re in PJ’s doesn’t mean you can just roll out of bed. One of the tell-tale signs of pj -ness is not wearing anything underneath it. Understand that I’m all for free-the-nipple etc, but in this case, I think it just makes it that much more obvious you are wearing pjs. My up-top situation is relatively small so I just got away with Nipple Covers here {BTW, I LIVE on these. I literally wear them all the time. A must have}. However, if you’re more well-endowed than I am, I’d recommend a low-cut bra so you don’t see it over the top OR a cute lacy bra that you won’t mind showing just a little. Tip #2 will allow you to wear a regular bra vs strapless so don’t worry about that. If your PJ top of choice is a sweater or button down situation, I definitely still advise undergarments to keep it from looking sloppy.
-
Keep Your Outfit Balance by Covering Up:
Again, I’m no puritan, but as with any outfit you need to maintain a visual balance. I personally feel that a lacy PJ cami looks best under something structured like a blazer or leather jacket. It creates a balance for the eye and keeps your look flowing. This is especially important if you’re choosing to show skin on the bottom of your outfit, covering up some skin in the top portion keeps the look feeling even. Alternatively, if your PJ top of choice is the button down or sweater variety, it’s best to keep your proportions on the bottom either skin-tight or skin baring to balance it out. A blousy top or puffy sweater looks best against it’s opposite on the bottom.
-
Tuck it in:
This also goes to the visual “flow” of the outfit. Whether you’re wearing a lace cami or a fluffy sweater, odds are you’re going to want to tuck it in. PJ attire tends to be a bit baggy, to keep it comfy, so tucking it in changes the look from “rolled out of bed” to “rolling on the runway”. Jesus, I am so effing cheezy sometimes- I can’t write that with a straight face. But you get the idea- tucking it in makes you look more pulled together. Just trust me.
-
Elevate Your Look, Literally:
Again, it’s all about the OUTFIT BALANCE. If your top is super casual, keep it balanced by kicking up the posh factor somewhere else. Accessorize with sparkly jewelry {I went with this gold and turquoise bracelet and this gold pendant} , rock some heels instead of flats. The blazer or structured jacket cover up helps to elevate the look as well. -
Own It:
The key to pulling off any look is OWNING IT. Just rock it and don’t question yourself and no one else will either. If they do? Screw em lol. The sooner we learn to let go of what other people think of us, the better.
Follow these tips and you’ll be glad you rocked your sleepwear on the streets, I promise! It’s extra fun because you feel like you’re doing something you shouldn’t be. LMK if you give it a try!
Xx,
You look awesome, love the idea! xoxo
