Hi, Boos! It’s currently Sunday night, I’m cuddled in bed wearing comfy clothes with That Pig laying on my feet and we may or may not be listening to Christmas music despite the fact that it’s the first week of September. {Just a TASTE, guys, calm down. I won’t go full fledged holiday mode until the day after Thanksgiving lol}.
Anyway, there’s more than premature Christmas cheer and kitty cuddles calming me tonight. That’s right, friends, my soul is soothed, my worries calmed, my fears erased by the absolute BEST thing Mark has ever given me:
A WEIGHTED BLANKET.
This gift started the way most gifts from Mark do:
I explicitly told him it was what I wanted and subsequently reminded him about it 82 times.
What can I say? I know what I want and I know how to get it.
He gave it to me for my birthday a little over a month ago and I swear every day I say “I LOVE THIS BLANKET SO MUCH” at least once.
Life. Changing.
Benefits of A Weighted Blanket
You may be asking, why tf would I want a weighted blanket?
I was definitely not that person because I’ve always felt safer with weight on me, especially when I sleep.
Mark would have just the sheet and comforter on his side of the bed while I had multiple folded blankets and extra pillows piled on my side, especially on my feet. I actually can’t sleep if there’s not enough weight on me.
Did this cause many, many fights because my shit would pull the comforter off the side of the bed every night? I’ll leave that for you to decide.
So, I knew I cared about weight enough to risk my marriage, I just never knew the science behind it. Turns out:
+ Weight or pressure on your body helps relax your nervous system by increasing Serotonin and Melatonin levels {the happiness and sleep hormones} and decreasing Cortisol {stress hormone}
+ The increase in Serotonin and Melatonin help reduce feelings of anxiety
+ It helps reduce body movement while sleeping which results in a deeper REM cycle
+ It feels effing GREAT
Another thing, it’s not just for sleeping. Because of the chemical reaction it creates in your body it’s great for anyone who suffers from anxiety or stress. In moments of strong anxiety I like to wrap it around my shoulders.
Mark got me THIS ONE which I now see has an accompanying duvet cover he did NOT get me, so guess I have to be more specific in my future gift requests that I want ALL available parts of a gift. Wow. DON’T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE- GET A DUVET COVER FOR YOUR BLANKET. The blanket itself is not able to be washed, so a cover is essential.
Anyway. I absolutely LOVE IT.
He got the 48″ x 78″ which is basically the size of a twin comforter, since he didn’t want it on his side at all. It comes in weights ranging from 5 – 25 pounds and it should be around 10% of your body weight. He got me the 20 pound one, ideal for adults weighing between 180 – 220 pounds lol. BUT, I’m glad he went overboard with that because I loveeeeee the weight and don’t think I would have wanted it any lighter. Plus, it’s so heavy I make him carry it from bed to couch for me. ANOTHER PERK, PEOPLE. It is really heavy though, so if you’re unsure if you like weight on you or not I would stick closer to that 10% ideal.
