What To Do When You’re In A Funk

Lake Arrowhead Mountain View getting out of a funk

I was fortunate enough to do an interview with VoyageLA today {I’ll let you guys know when it’s live!} and one of the questions asked was, “If I started all over what lessons-learned would I go in with?” My answer surprised me as it is still something I’m struggling with today: just. doing. it.

Can you relate?

When we care so much about something and have such a clear vision for it sometimes that vision becomes daunting and we freeze in the pursuit of perfection.

My blog is my heart. My creative outlet. A peek into my soul. No pressure, right? There are so many days I just want to stream of consciousness talk to you guys like this but all the BUSINESS thoughts race through my head:

What value is this providing your readers? How will this rank in SEO? What correlating images will you place with this? Is this on brand? Is this different enough from what you’ve posted recently? Does this go with your editorial calendar {ummmm you mean that one I haven’t made yet? Perfect.}  AH! You’re right, Anxiety. I didn’t want to write anything anyway. Quality over quantity. Let’s just wait a month until things have festered and my stress gets to a boiling point.

Perfect.

Except not. lol.

THIS IS THE WHOLE ISSUE.

So here is the value I am providing to you today, dear readers, the moral of the story:

YOU ARE ENOUGH. What you are doing, is enough. Even when it doesn’t feel like it. You are going to have shit days. I’m sort of having one today for absolutely no reason. That is ok. Give yourself a break. Interrupt anxiety with gratitude. If you are in a funk and can’t think of anything to be grateful for: start with your breath. You are alive. You are breathing. Your heart is beating. You are doing just fine and everything is unfolding for you exactly as it should. It will probably help if you go outside for a quick walk, or pet your cat or watch The Holiday or drink some wine and/or hot chocolate. So do that. And smile.
